Mid-Level or Senior Associate Attorney
Braun Blaising Smith Wynne (BBSW) specializes in providing legal services on energy issues to public power entities. Since the formation of BBSW in 1996, our attorneys have represented clients on a wide array of matters, including market and regulatory advocacy, commercial negotiations, public agency law and environmental regulation. BBSW’s attorneys actively practice administrative law before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, California Independent System Operator and California Air Resources Board.
BBSW provides service to a diverse group of clients, which includes some of California’s most innovative and progressive public agencies. Included among the clients are trade associations (California Municipal Utilities Association, California Community Choice Association), large publicly owned utilities (Sacramento Municipal Utility District), numerous small publicly owned utilities, and a growing list of community choice aggregators (CCAs), which currently includes twelve operational CCAs.
Position Summary and Responsibilities
BBSW seeks a full-time mid-level to senior associate attorney with approximately 3-8 years of relevant experience (Associate). Typical duties will include representing clients in regulatory advocacy matters, including document drafting, legal research and analysis, attending administrative hearings, agency workshops, and assistance with legal compliance activities. The Associate will be expected to work independently and take ownership over certain matters. The Associate will be required to attend hearings and meetings in various locations, including Sacramento and San Francisco.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
BBSW’s office is located in downtown Sacramento, and preference will be given to candidates who are able to work primarily at BBSW’s Sacramento office. However, given BBSW’s interaction with the CPUC, BBSW will also consider candidates residing in the San Francisco Bay Area. BBSW has a flexible remote work/work-from-home policy, but the position will require some level of work at BBSW’s Sacramento office.
Benefits and Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with other law firms who provide legal services to public agencies. Benefits include 4% BBSW match to employee contributions to a 401(k) plan, paid health insurance, paid time off, paid cell phone and paid parking in downtown Sacramento, and other general benefits.
