Law Clerk

Braun Blaising & Wynne P.C. (BB&W) is seeking a part-time school year law clerk for the 2024-2025 school year with potential extension to become a summer associate for full-time employment. BB&W provides regulatory, transactional and general counsel services to public agencies, such as community choice aggregators as well as publicly owned electric and water utilities. BB&W engages in matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, California Independent System Operator, California Energy Commission, California Public Utilities Commission and California Air Resources Board. Typical duties will include regulatory reporting services, attending/monitoring agency workshops, document drafting, regulatory filings, legal research and analysis, and assistance with legal compliance activities. Environmental law and/or energy/utility law subject matter areas of interest are preferred.

Senior Associate Attorney

Braun Blaising & Wynne, P.C. (BB&W) (https://www.braunlegal.com/) is looking for a senior associate that is ready to hit the ground running on several high-profile regulatory, policy, and commercial matters.

BB&W provides legal services and strategic counseling on energy issues primarily to public power entities, including community choice aggregators (CCAs) and publicly owned utilities (POUs). Our practice includes work at the legislature, California Public Utilities Commission, California Energy Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, California Independent System Operator and California Air Resources Board. Our diverse clientele includes the statewide CCA and POU associations. We represent small community POUs and CCAs and also some of the largest public power entities. Our practice includes considerable work on developing regional energy markets and transmission initiatives. Often, we are treated similar to in-house counsel and are integrally involved in management and strategic counsel for these public power entities.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

BB&W seeks a full-time associate attorney with 4-6 years of relevant experience. Typical duties will include representing clients in regulatory advocacy matters, including pleading work and oral advocacy in stakeholder forums and workshops, participating in administrative and evidentiary hearings and agency workshops, and working as part of our regulatory compliance team. Immediately, the associate will have direct client interaction and very quickly will be expected to work independently and assume full responsibility as the lead attorney for certain matters.

Compensation and Advancement

  • With appropriate experience and fit with BB&W, the initial salary range is $190-235k per year with bonus opportunities.
  • After no more than two years, and depending on performance and mutual interest, it is the expectation that the associate would be offered a shareholder position in the firm.

Work Location/Remote Work

BB&W’s office is located in downtown Sacramento. BB&W has a flexible remote work/work-from-home policy.
